Question:
I would like to hear from people who have done both and the success of each..
When I was pregnant and had gestational diabetes, I ate 4-5 small meals a day and lost weight through the whole pregnancy. I know I am not pregnant now but it seems like the 2 oz meals 3 times a day is not working fast enough for me. I was wondering about trying 4-5 smaller meals a day, so I have tried it for the past couple of days, I don't feel hungry at all, I know that we have to find what works for us, just wondered what you all thought?!?! — Sugarbaker2001 (posted on December 21, 2002)

I have done 4 to 6 small meals, depending on my appetite, since surgery and
am down 93 pounds in 5 months. This was recommended by my doctor. Ok,
actually 3 meals and 3 or 3 snacks were the "recommendation" but
since snacks and meals are the same size lol, I just call them meals.

Yeah, I don't think I could live with the "starve & stuff
method", either. We did 5-6 1-2 oz meals per day. Even today, at 8
yrs, I do 4 "feedings", call them meals or snacks. 4 solid foods
a day + protein supps. I agree with you that the several small meals
(spaced, not grazed) wil help set up a more normal comfortably full,
comfortably empty pattern.

My surgeon and nutritionist recommend the 5-6 small meals a day, which
wasn't much of a change for me since I am a Type II diabetic (although I've
been off my Glucotrol since my operation). I found that having the 5-6
smaller meals help keep your blood sugar levels more even throughout the
day - thus preventing the appetite from getting too strong...JR (open RNY
