Question:
Long term solutions for broken toilet seats... the bolts...
I read in the answers to "a day in the life of an obese person" that many, many people have a problem with breaking toilet seats. Though I have never broken the seat itself, those darn bolts break on day two. Once I saw on TV that they were selling an "unbreakable bolt" for toilet seats. But I didn't commit it to memory. Has anyone found a way to make those bolts more sturdy??? — Karen F. (posted on July 1, 2002)

you can get replacement bolts that are brass at lowes.

I haven't busted the bolts...but I have cracked the seat. Took about 9
months but it gave <sigh>. Our solution was to remove the little
pads on the underside of the toilet seat and adhere them underneath in the
middle sides (where the cracking occured from stress). This $6 seat's
lasted 3 years now and no cracks - not even a hint of one. Cheap fix!
