Question:
Can't take NSAIDS after surgery??
Hi Folks! I have pretty bad "fibromyalsia" and am definately addicted to ibuprofen, it's the only thing that takes the edge off the pain....tylenol doesn't work for me...what will I do without my beloved ibuprofen??? — Kellie F. (posted on June 28, 2002)

Have you considered a Duodenal Switch Surgery instead of RNY? You can
take Aleve, Advil, etc with DS surgeries. I am postop 3 weeks and LOVE
this surgery. You can also have sugar in limited quantities and the
stomach size is 6-10 ozs as opposed to 2 ozs. You might want to look into
it. It has a lot of pluses! Check out: http://www.duodenalswitch.com

Good luck to you on whatever path you choose!

I had much the same question due to advanced osteoarthritis in my knees.
My surgeon had switching me to Celebrex for the month pre-op and it didn't
touch the pain. So I have special permission to take my Cataflam with
chewable Pepcis AC both now [pre-op] and post-op starting one week after
surgery. When I brought this question about post-op up at my doc's office,
they said "well, you'll lose the weight, so you won't need the
meds." I had to remind them that it isn't an instantaneous process,
and that I would still have arthritis pain and have to walk post-op while I
was losing.
Good luck- my surgeon is very, very experienced, and that was his answer.
