Question:
What is this hard ridge under part of my incision and it burns?
I'm having some burning and stinging in the middle 1/4 of my incision. In this same part the tissue forms a hard ridge and is slightly tender to touch. I called my surgeon and his assistant said the stinging is healing and the ridge is called a "healing ridge".. not sure if i'm buying this or should incist on talking to the surgeon. Anyone else heard of this? — Ann W. (posted on March 21, 2002)

The assistant is right. That is just what is happening, that area is
healing, and it gets a hard bump and can have a
burning/pulling/itching/pain sensation. I am 5 weeks post and I have had
bumps, ridges, lumps the entire time. Some were so big I thought I had a
hernia, and so did a regular doc I saw. This is all part of the fun of
healing. If it continues, get very red, has streaks or you get a fever
call them back.
