Question:
Does Aetna cover WLS no matter what company you belong to, or do some plans exclude?

I was wondering does Aetna general cover WLS regardless of the company or organization you get it through, or do some companies with Aetna have an exlusion clause for weightloss? Generally speaking, does aetna always cover WLS if you meet criteria?    — Michelle H. (posted on March 9, 2002)

Hi. Here's a breakdown of the whole WLS vs. INS CO. situation, as I understand it: Many states have laws that require ins. cos to cover WLS, however, any emploer can opt not to purchase this coverage. The best (and only) thing to do is call your ins. co directly. If you have an (employer) exclusion, it should pop up right away. If that's the case, I'm sorry to say you may be out of luck; these can be very tough to fight and win. Good luck.
