Question:
Fast weight loss: Is this actually too fast?

Woo hoo! I'm down 71 pounds in 12 weeks!! I have less than 100 pounds left to get to my most ambitious goal of 140 lbs! Those 71 pounds represent a loss of 23% of my starting weight (310 lbs), or 42% of my excess weight (170 lbs) in 12 weeks. I thought it was supposed to take a lot longer than that? :-) Is it possible to go TOO FAST? I am exercising a lot, getting enough protein, vitamins, iron & calcium, and make a minor religion out of water consumption, but I still eat some junk once in a while and don't feel like I've been *that* virtuous. Am I just lucky, or are there pitfalls I should worry about?    — Julia M. (posted on December 9, 2001)

Congrats!! I went back and checked my profile - I was -72lbs at 12 wks and now @ a little over 4mos -100!! I also thought that I was loosing too quickly -I have had some hair loss and fatigue, but I have to laugh at myself for worrying about loosing weight too quickly! Not something usually associated w/me! Take care

I don't think that's too much. I'm down 82 lbs in appx 11 weeks. My starting weight was 361. I think that you're right on track and I congratulate you!

In less than 5 months I am down 98 pounds, see my profile. It details my loss. Your doing great and nearly everyone cheats a bit. Dont wqorry you wouldnt waste away to nothing. That just doesnt happen. As your weight drops the rate will drop too just as mine has done:( Congrats your doing great and before you know it you will be complaining of you loss slowing....

Don't worry. It won't last. Unfortunately it WILL slow down. But enjoy it while it lasts. It gets rough when the plataus start and you do everything right and the weight loss creeps. But the fast weight loss at the beginning is wonderful. :) And it sure helped my knees which were screaming for knee replacements. (Bought me some time). I don't think it's too fast of a weight loss for you. ;)

I think it is possible to lose too MUCH weight; but, losing too fast isn't a problem. Just enjoy it because things will slow down all too fast. I was a fast loser too, for 11 months. Then WHAM...the breaks went on and I'm having a very difficult time losing my final 35lbs. It's been very discouraging because I'm doing all the things I should and getting no results! The only thing that helps is cutting out almost all carbs and then I'm only losing 2-3 pounds a month. But, that's what I'm doing...50 grams a day...and I should hit my goal by next October. You are in good shape.
