Question:
11 days post op, 40 lbs gone, is this too fast??
Hello all, I am 13 days post op, went to my follow up doc appointment on Thursday, and I have dropped 40 lbs, in 11 days!! Is this too fast??. I started out at 330 and BMI of 57. I am very very shocked. I almost fell off the scale when I saw how much I had lost. I'm just worried I'm losing it too fast. I'm doing everything my doc wants, any input would be appreciated. — [Anonymous] (posted on August 11, 2001)

I understand. i lost 30 pounds in 14 days. I was shocked. Funny thing is
the following week I only lost 5 pounds. I think all of our bodies are
different and it will balance somewhere. People may claim to disagree, but
I think that losing fast is not a bad thing, everyone wishes that they did,
no matter what they say. Lets be real---we are having surgery to loose the
weight fast and forever. Be thankful for the blessing!!

Relax, smile, your a fast looser. I am down about 35 pounds in 3 weeks, and
most of it was lost in the first 2 weeks. I started at 313 pounds. I wish I
were loosing faster, but what will be will be. In the end it all evens out.
But tell your friends what surgery you had, so they dont think you are
dying of cancer or something.....

I also started out about your BMI and weight and lost almost as much as you
very soon. Don't expect it will last! It's great but soon you will probally
platoo and then the depression will hit. Seems I lose fast the first two
weeks then stop two weeks. Then all over again. But everyone is different.
I think alot of weight loss at the beginning is water weight too. But in
any case it's great to get that fast weight loss at the beginning. It helps
the knees too.
Besides you most likely will feel like crap for awhile and it helps to know
you did this surgery for a good reason. ;)
I'm glad for you! Keep 'er up!

I had the same experience myself. The first time I was weighed was exactly
one month post-surgery. I stepped on the scale, but could not see the
weight reading, so I asked the nurse. She told me I lost 46 pounds. I
didn't believe her! In fact, when the doctor came to see me, I made him
re-weigh me. It was true! BUT then I go back 3 weeks later, and only down
10 more! Talk about depression. And I really felt guilty even
complaining. 56 pounds in 51 days! The doctor laughed at me for
complaining. But it wasn't that I was unhappy with the loss, just that it
slowed so soon. And I am even heavier than you. You just have to realize
that you lose a lot of water weight right away, and then after the first
couple weeks your body is in a "starving" mode and tries to keep
some of those nutrients that you begin to ingest. So just remember, don't
get depressed if it slows by your second visit. Look at the big picture
like I have tried. I've lost more than a pound a day. And even if I only
lose 10 pounds a month for the next four months (as I have the last 3
weeks), then I'll still be at 100 pounds down in 6 months. Keep the faith,
and keep working at it. You're right where you should be!

I came here to find the answer to this very same question as
I lost 24 Lbs. in just 1 week (2 days fasting Pre-OP; 2 days
fasting day of WLS and day after; 3 days Post-OP on a liquid diet).
I was happy (very) but a bit concerned the "steep dive" will
not stop - I want it to continue a few more weeks then stop - that
would be nice! Anyway, it seems normal from what others wrote,
so I am less concerned now.
