Question:
Does this surgery help with the relief of a prolaped uterus?

Over the past 3 years I have experienced a prolapsed uterus several times. My doctor said that because I have had so many children that the muscles there are weak and because I weigh so much that doesn't help either. Can anyone please send me information on this. I can probably use it to my benefit (unfortunately)! I do not experience too much pain with this...high pain tolerance I guess. I've been told that it is an excrutiating condition but for me it only hurts after....(xxxxx) ya know!!!It usually only lasts a day or two at a time and then corrects itself...thank you Lord. Please email info quickly...thanks.    — Tammi V. (posted on July 22, 2001)

I work for an ob/gyn office and we see a lot of prolapse. The best correction is surgical, and if you are positive you are done having children, they recommend a hysterectomy. Your weight certainly affects the prolapse and the surgical repair is much more successful without extra weight stressing the area. I had surgery to correct a bladder prolapse but did not have the hyst because I was not sure about the no more kids thing at the time. My doctor warned me that at my young age, 29 when I had the surgery 5 years ago, that it may have to be repeated. I think if the prolapse is not bothering you every day or causing urinary retention or incontinence, you might want to see how bad it is after you lose weight before doing the sugery. The best way to decide how to proceed is to consult with your ob.
