Question:
Will insurance cover a revision due to staple line leak?
I am 6 months post-op open RNY proximal and have lost 108 pounds. My BMI is around 33 now. My surgeon has found that I have a small staple line disruption. If I have to have a revision, which I would opt to do if it's possible, is it difficult to get insurance companies to cover a revision? Has anyone had to put up a fight to get a revision covered after SLD? Thanks! — robin C. (posted on July 15, 2001)

If there is a staple line migration or disruption by all means you should
have no problem getting a revision done for your own safely.. However I
would make sure in the revision that you have the stomach completely
divided this time so that this will not happen again.. Also make sure you
have qualified surgeon experienced in revisions ...

I had no problem getting my revision covered. It depends on your insurance
and whether or not there are any clauses against 2nd procedures. Read over
your policy or call your ins. companies' help line.
