Question:
Does Estrogen hinder weight loss?

A few years ago when I started taking estrogen the weight started piling on. Two weeks pre-op I stopped taking it per Drs. orders. Post-op the weight just fell off and now that I'm taking it again I can't seem to lose anymore weight, it's been three weeks since I've lost any weight. Anyone else have this problem or any suggestions? Lorraine    — Lorraine L. (posted on July 12, 2001)

Don't worry, the weight will come off again soon. You are on a plateau. My entire weight loss has been full of 3 and 4 week plateaus. I am on Hormone replacement therapy (estrogen patches). I did lose kinda slowly, but at 15 months postop RNY I am within 10 to 15 pounds of goal weight and I do NOT need a tummy tuck. The hormones may have slowed my weight loss, but it sure didn't stop it or cause me to gain weight. It is very important that you take them! Do not stop!

I've been on Hormone replacement (Premarin) since 1997. Although I already weighed 335-140lbs at that time, I didn't gain another pound after I started on it. I had my OpenVBG on 6/11/01, still taking my Premarin every day, and have lost 41lbs in 4 weeks....

Your Premarin dosage may change as you lose wt. I've been taking it since 1981, surgery was 1994. I still weigh under 115 at all times, so apparently not causing wt gain for me. I also have never had to adj my dose, but some of my buddies have.
