Question:
Has anyone been diagnosed with an inflammed esophagus?
I am preop and I saw my family doc ref medication for reflux as antacids were not doing the job. I also have a bad cough, and have had one for some time. I thought the cough was due to my allergies. My doc thinks the cough could be from inflammation of my esophagus.....Is this a common problem? — [Anonymous] (posted on June 5, 2001)

A chronic cough and inflamed esophagus are common with reflux because of
constant irritation from stomach acid.

Yes, the reflux does cause a cough because the stomach acids spash up and
irritate the esphogus. I had the same problem. Usually prevacid will do
the trick. It is a very common problem...your doc should be able to give
you something asap..take care. Oh, also if you have asthma the acids from
the stomach can make breathing more difficult for people with asthma. All
will be ok...
