Has anyone been diagnosed with an inflammed esophagus?

I am preop and I saw my family doc ref medication for reflux as antacids were not doing the job. I also have a bad cough, and have had one for some time. I thought the cough was due to my allergies. My doc thinks the cough could be from inflammation of my esophagus.....Is this a common problem?
