Question:
What surgery type is best for a man in his late 30's & weighs close to 400lbs.?
I don't know what his BMI is; he's 6'1" and probably weighs around 380-390 lbs. He's big-boned, so I think he should probably weigh around 200-220? Another important point is that this man is a priest so he needs to be able to tolerate wine & bread post-op. Any ideas? — lalasmommy (posted on May 29, 2001)

Alexandra, I am a 37 year old father of 5 who had Open RnY on 4/13/01. I
weighed in at 398.2 pounds, and I am 5ft 11 inches, the morning of the
surgery. In the six weeks since the surgery I am down almost 60 pounds.
For me and because of the amount of weight I was and the amount they said I
should be, I felt that this type of surgery was the best for me. If you or
your friend would like to talk to me feel free to e-mail me. I see you
just had your surgery, hope all went well and welcome to the other side.
