Question:
Is it normal to get burps & creaky noises in my throat after swallowing liquds?
I had my open RNY (distal) 6 days ago on 5/21/01, so I'm still doing liquds. Well, when I swallow each tiny, microscopic sip, I get gurgling burp-gas sounds; some come up as an actual burp, others stop short of my throat. others seem to just spin around lower in my throat. Is this normal? Will it go away anytime soon? It's kind of embarassing and "unlady-like" when I have company, to sit there & let out a big old burp, but if I hold it in, I feel bloated & in pain. — lalasmommy (posted on May 27, 2001)

Well, it's normal enough because I get the same thing. I'm 9 days post and
I get these gurglings whenever I drink liquids. I wouldn't worry about it
too much. Hopefully, the above poster is right and they'll go away
eventually.

I'M 9 MONTHS POST AND FOR THE FIRST THREE MONTHS I HAD "GURGLE"
NOISES IN MY THROAT, LIKE AT THE TOP OF MY THROAT, REALLY ANNOYING BUT
DO-ABLE.

I am 20 days post op (20# down) and have the same problem. At first I got
the gurgling whenever I ate or drank something, but it is getting better.
Now I only get it if I eat or drink too fast . . . or eat something my body
doesn't like.
I'm still burping, but that has let up somewhat, too. Hey, maybe you can
play music whenever you have company. I've learned to "let off
steam" pretty quietly!

well i had my surgery on halloween 2001. I stil have those gurgling sounds
in my throat. I HATE THEM. They have gotten less and less as time passed.
I usually get them if I eat to fast or drink too fast. They are going away
so dont sweat it they will get better

I too get those! my surgery was 5/17/02 and I have that after drinking or
eating. it must be pretty normal. What I try to do is hold the liquid in my
mouth and breathe OUT before swallowing to at least try and lower the
chance of swallowing a lot of air with my liquid.
