Question:
If Insurance denies surgery coverage, who writes the appeal?

It seems like this is taking FOREVER! I'manticipating a denial since my insurance keeps telling me how this is considered "cosmetic". I am wondering...If I am denied, who will need to write the letter of appeal? Me or the doctor? If it's me, I want to get started and have it ready. Please answer....    — Deafwriter (posted on April 22, 2001)

The answer is the doctor does. You could always help him by making a letter stating your reasons to aid him in his appeal letter, not to mention that writing is therapeutic. It could also help you to get your feelings on paper. Works for me, my profile is a book.

I had my denial turned around in two days and was urged by my doctor to pursue the insurance company. With my insurance company, I would have had to file the appeal also if I had formally appealed. I will send you my letter.

The doctors office, actually BTC, sent an appeal letter, and I also sent one of my own to my insurance carrier. I have not heard back yet, but am due to hear any day now, as the board was reviewing it in the 19th of April. Best of luck with your journey.
