Question:
Help! I'm almost 3 weeks post-op and having alot of problems eating

everything goes right though me, giving me terrible lower bowel cramps and diarreha. today I've spent most of the day on or near the toliet, only able to get down ice chips. I've not thrown up yet at all, just feeling weak and afraid to eat anything. This has been an on going problem since my surgery. One day I eat and the next day I pay for it. thanks and hugs..    — Debi V. (posted on March 9, 2001)

What are you eating? Milk products? Real juices or applesauce? The sugars might be bothering you or you may be lactose intolerant.

I can tell you that up to and thru week 3 were the hardest - at least for me. I had a lot of cramps and movement in the bowels. I started to feel much better after the first week. However, like everyone says, if in doubt call your doctor, and tell him what is going on.

I was on clear liquids for 4 weeks then moved to full liquids fifth week and pureed /soft foods sixth week. Maybe you just need to adjust your diet . Do call your doctor he/she is the authority. Michelle is right I was allowed NO dairy products or fruits & high sugar juices for a long time. I thought of my food as a baby diet introducing one new food at a time into a stomach not used to anything. Go slow and easy. I still can't tolerate milk products , although I can use cream in my coffee without any adverse effects , also bread and pasta give me gas.

I HAVE TROUBLE EATING TOO, I HAD SURGERY FEB 1. IT SEEMS IF I'M ABLE TO EAT, I DON'T FEEL WELL AFTERWARDS. I HOPE THIS STOPS; I WAS PREPARED FOR EVERYTHING BUT I DON'T WANT TO GO THROUGH LIFE HATING THE PROSPECT OF EATING!

I am 1 year out and I will have diarrhea if my Dr did'nt perscribed QUESTRIAN powder which is a life saver. I take it every nite with apple sauce or yogurt. Without it I just have no control. Hope this will help. It costs about $30 a can but last quite a while. Good Luck
