Question:
Can anyone recommend a good diet program to lose these final 30 lbs?
I am 1.5 years postop and am pleased with the success of my weight loss but at 5'6" 175 lbs I just cant seem to make it to my goal. Id like to lose another 30 lbs but Ive been holding steady at 175 lbs for 6 months now. I just joined Weight Watchers but feel hungry all the time. Can anyone suggest a good traditional diet program I could use to get rid of these stubborn last pounds? Im exercising 3 days a week. — [Anonymous] (posted on March 4, 2001)

I know you would really like to reach your goal weight but did you ever
consider that your body is trying to tell you that this is a good weight
for you? Your weight of 175 really isnt all that bad. What was your
starting weight? It also depends on your muscle mass and bone density.
Going to Weight Watchers is putting you right back onto the diet
rollercoaster. You should be carefull before you diet your self back to
your starting weight. If you really feel that you can loose an extra
30lbs, maybe you should try stepping up the exercies and eat as normal.
The post before mine gave good exercise tips. Good luck!

I would like to suggest to you that you get a special kind of weighing. It
is done underwater and measures your actualy body fat content. If you fall
within the healthy percentage of between 23-26% (for a woman, depending on
age), it may be that you have no more weight to lose and 175 IS your
appropriate weight. We are too dependent upon charts developed without
regard for individual characteristics. Alot depends on your genetics, bone
density, muscle mass, etc. If you carried a lot of weight for a long time,
and you come from 'peasant stock (think, stronng people), you are likely at
a normal weight for you. Please check it out before you torture yourself
and get back on the diet yo-yo. If you are eating healthy and exercising
regularly, and you are within an acceptable fat percentage, you are just
fine. Good Luck to you!

According to my Doctor, the best diet to follow is the Pritiken diet, which
is more carbs than protein. 75-80% Carbs, 10-15% Protein and 10% Fat. He
said you should follow this diet for life.
