Question:
Why does it sometimes hurt when I drink water?
I am 11 days post op and I have had few problems. I am finding it very hard to get in 64 oz of water a day. Water makes me cramp. It is a wierd feeling. It almost feels like the water goes straight through my stomach and right into my intestines where is starts causing cramps. Help..I hate drinking water now and I used to love it. — Eva C. Eva,
I remember having that full crampy feeling in the beginning especially when
I drank cold water. I had my surgery on October 12, 2000 (down 95
pounds)and I am just now able to drink 64 ozs of water a day. Be patient,
it does get easier every day.

Dear Eva,
Please remember to sip...sip...sip...If you gulp or drink too
fast, then the consequences are a very uncomfortable feeling.
I agree with Helen C. -;) Be patient...it will get better!

I had a similar problem - sharp pains when I drank cold water and I was
sipping. It passes after about seven weeks. Now I can drink as much as I
want with no problem.

Water hit me like this, too. And like you, I was accustomed to drinking
lots of water and loving it. Iin my case, it turned out to be a marginal
ulcer, which forms at the "margin" between pouch &
intestine. Some docs scope to see, some just treat it "as if" it
is and go from there. It's relatively easy to fix and if they do scope,
it's just inconvenient, not painful. Have you reported to your doc?
