Question:
Has anyone had gastric bypass while being stationed overseas?
I am a dependent spouse, and am currently in Aviano,Italy. Is it normal procedure to have the surgery here or will I be sent back to the states or to a military hospital in the states? Thanks in advance for any help or advice. My email address is [email protected] Victoria — perezrdh (posted on January 29, 2001)

Hi Victoria. I am a Army spouse as well. I don't have the answer to your
question but my guess would be that you'd have to do the surgery stateside
if the Army hospital there does not do it. I seriously doubt they will send
you to a civilan DR. I am in Alabama and they would not let me see a
civilan DR. Best of luck to you on your journey. I am 10 months post-op and
99 pounds lighter.....it's definately worth it =o)

Hi Victoria, I don't have any personal dealing with TRICARE overseas. Its
hard enough trying to get things done here with TRICARE**smile***eek***,
but I am in contact with a military spouse who is in Germany. The army
doctors referred her to a doctor in England who does the surgery. She will
be going there shortly for her first appointment. Email me and I'll set up
a contact for you.
