Question:
Calling all Lap Post-ops......Does anyone have a scar tissue build up?
I am a month and a 1/2 post-op, I had the Lap RYN, I am wondering if anyone else has experienced this. My one incision site which right under my sturnum (Breast Area)is very red hot and swollen, it feels like a lump underneath. The scar is a purple color. Has any one else had this, I have called my Doctor but I am still waiting to hear from him. Is this normal? I am just worried because it is near my heart and lungs, and if it is an infection I need to take care of it now! Thanks to any help any one has. — AnnMarie W. (posted on May 30, 2000)

I had a lap DS 5 months ago and know many other lap patients. Most of us
had some swelling and lumps associated with various incisions, and were
told it's normal healing. But I can't recall anyone reporting heat,
although they may have and I just can't remember. Usually, heat indicates
infection. Make sure you keep bugging your doctor until you get a response.
And be sure to mention that it's hot. Best of luck to you!

Hi AnneMarie,
Sounds to me as if one of the incisions has an infection in it. I would
call my surgeon A.S.A.P. and get him to see you. If left untreated, it can
lead to a BIG infection. Not trying to scare you but it can be dangerous
and can lead to a blood infection. I would insist to the office staff at
your surgeon's office that you been seen by him because you believe that
you have an infection. If he doesn't respond to you, you may have to see
your PCP and get him to give you an antibiotic to clear it up. Sometimes
there is swelling associated with the incision but heat and redness tend to
indicate infection. Good Luck to you...
