Question:
I have a couple of questions for the list:
I saw my surgeon on 5/11 and have not heard a single word from my insuror. I do expect a denial per their exclusion policy. My first question is how long does it generally take to get a response from an insuror and do they have to respond positive or negatively. Second, I am considering a consult with another surgeon for a possible hip replacement. I really don't want to do this but may not have a choice as the pain is getting unbearable. Has anyone else had a hip replacement and could you share the cost information for hip-replacement surgery? Thanks in advance. — jeff P. (posted on May 27, 2000)

I saw my surgeon on May 2, they had all my medical records, a letter of
support from my therapist, and I had all of the pre-op work done at the
hospital which 1/4 block away from thier office. Yesterday, I called the
office to aske when the packet had been sent out to my insurance. The
insurance rep. told me just today, 5/26. When, I called I asked why and was
told the Dr. is very busy. So now it's on its way. I tell you this because
I wonder if they have recieved it yet or if it is in transit. Contact the
insurance rep. at the office and aske what date the request was sent out.
Also, the insurance rep. asked me what address to send the packet to. I
have a common insurance so I found that odd. Now, I have to wonder if later
next week I will need to re-direct this request to the proper person. My
advice, stay right on top of every aspect of it that is reasonable. This is
your life, your health and your well being. If you feel you are going to be
a pest, so what. I had breast reduction surgery in 95' and the claims
examiner and I recognized one another's voice. But, it got approved. Good
luck and stay in the loop.
