Question:
Is it possible to get Pregnant after having the RYN surgery?
I wondering if it is possible to have another child after having surgery? My husband is concerned if I'll be able to conceive again in a couple of years. we have 1 child now but he would like another. If anyone knows if this is possible please let me know.....Thanks — Denise K. (posted on April 21, 2000)

YES!IT'S POSSIBLE TO HAVE KIDS AFTER HAVING THE SURGERY. A FRIEND OF MINE
HAD A HEALTHY BABY GIRL ABOUT A YEAR AFTER HER SURGERY. TELL YOUR HUSBAND
HE DOESN'T HAVE TO WORRY.

It is my understanding that most women that are having difficulties
conceiving usually have no problem after the surgery. This is one of the
reasons that doctors are so concerned about birth control. They would like
us to wait until our weight lose has stabilized before we get pregnant so
that we are getting the proper nutrients and that it does not slow down our
weight lose process. So the answer to your question is yes. Becky GBP
8/19/99 started 270 98lbs gone forever so close to 100 I can't stand it.

YES, it is VERY possible to get pregnant. A woman who had a very
successful RNY just brought her infant son to our last support group
meeting. In fact she cautioned us that after losing a lot of weight it is
MUCH easier to get pregnant which can be both good and bad. (Infertility
is one of the major reasons why women choose WLS.) Talk to your doctor and
find out how soon he wants feels it is safe to get pregnant. Your hubby
has NOTHING to worry about:)

Hi Denise, I believe most physicians recommend you wait at least a year
before becoming pregnant, but you should certainly be able to have more
children. Hope this helps!
