Question:
Anyone out there had trouble with swelling feet/water retention post op?

Prior to surgery I was taking meds for high blood pressure that included a water pill daily. Since surgery have been off everything. My weight loss is great, 53 pounds in 9 weeks, but this week my feet have become swelled badly...even in the morning after being off them all night. I HAVE had trouble getting all my water in..could this be causing this? I broke down and took a water pill yesterday and lost 5 pounds..so clearly there is a problem. I intend to call the Dr. Monday, but wondered if any of you have had a simular problem? Any thoughts or suggestions are welcome. thanks for your time    — Shelly G. (posted on April 1, 2000)

Obviously the first thing you should do is talk to your Doctor. But yes, if you don't drink enough water your body will conserve what little it has and that can show up as swelling. Unless your Dr. says different, the best thing to do for water retention is to drink water. Water is what your body is telling you it needs. It will continue to hang on to every drop until it is convinced it is getting more. And if it helps, I have a terrible time getting all my water in too. It just seems to take forever to drink enough.
