Question:
My first dumping experience - a warning to others.
Im 4 months postop and have been doing well. Today, however, I learned a valuable lesson in what not to eat. Some of you might be familiar with that chocolate milk mix made by Carnation that comes in a glass container. Well I have a particularly fattening way of making it and that is to add extra chocolate at the bottom of the milk to create a chocolate lovers delight. Today I proceeded to drink a full 16 oz glass of chocolate milk...a mistake I wont soon forget. It didnt hit me right off which added to the severity of the dumping. About 1/2 hour after finishing the glass I started feeling queasy and went to the bathroom to throw-up. Unfortunately instead of being able to throwup the chocolate milk I was choking up what must have been stomach acid because it burned my throat horribly and tasted terrible. It took a few episodes to get everything out of my system and finally with my throat sore, I am no longer shaking and feeling flushed so hopefully the worst is over. Needless to say the first thing I did was throw out the container of chocolate milk mix. Just another example of why this surgery was necessary for someone like me. — Rita O. Rita:
Bless you for passing this valuable tip on to others.
I'm praying that the "dumping" thing will happen to me any and
every time I try to eat sugary things. That's my downfall and I want to
start living a new way of life after this surgery. I also hope that you've
gotten it all out of your system.

Rita... I am glad you feel better... sometimes applesauce can soothe the
reactions of dumping... hopefully you won't have to go through that any
time soon... Thank you for posting your reality check... it helps.. Take
Care
