Question:
What about starting another area in the forum?
The post that Melissa posted quoting a great deal of biblical passages, seems to have caused a great deal of contraversy. I happen to be a christian, but I don't push it on others. I posted a couple of posts concerning the idea of contacting individually by email if a person wishes to preach a sermon or offer more than "thoughts and prayers" in their posts, as this is not a religious chat board, it is a weightloss surgery chat board. I feel that there are many here who are offended (obviously by some of the posts) and that there are many agnostics, atheists, jews, and others who don't believe as the people do who posted the "sermons" for lack of a better word. I feel that there are some, that could be put off and potentially leave the support of this group, if they're constantly bombarded with religious posts. SO ... in thinking about this after getting a rather snotty email, from the post-er, I will offer this solution. Perhaps, Eric, you could add an area to the posts such as ... "faith and healing" or "Christian Insites" or something on that line, so that if people wish to read these type of posts, they may, and if they don't they don't have to. Just my two cents worth ... I hope you'll consider it. — Sherrie G. (posted on August 30, 1999)

Well, we have a restroom, why not a prayer "post it" room for
those who wish to step inside. I love this site I come here often, no
matter if it has a prayer room, restroom, or concession stand. I still
love it and appreciate all the hard work that was put into it. Thank you
Eric. ;-)

Another solution would be to just hit delete when you see
scriptures being presented. That is what I do. I am not
an atheist and I do have religious beliefs, but I too don't
feel that it should be overly promoted on this site. Thanks,
Just my two cents worth, also.

I feel the same way. I believe and everything, but don't neccesarily want
this to be on everything I read. I came here for support, and found it.
If I need support by faith I know where to find it.
I think that a "faith and healing" area would be great.

To anyone who believes I am egging on the controversy, I apologise
profusely!!! I beleive the individuals who've shared their dismay and
feelings that it is inappropriate to post highly religious posts publically
vs private email, have spoken on their own behalf, not because of me, and I
might add prior to my suggestions and posts in most cases. I do not feel
it's appropriate! That's the last I will say on this subject in public.

I too am a Christian and I tend to aggree with the idea that there is a
time and a place for everything. If we want to offer Christian comfort, we
should do it privately, one on one. There should be no problem with
offering prayers and support, but beyond that, find a Christian
e-mail list at:

Not a bad idea on the new area suggestion. However, My two cents is this.
If someone doesn't like something that is posted, there is a delete button
there that will remove it from their view.
In the past I had great need for prayer and my web family, here, came
through for me. I am not offended by the things others post here and Yes,
I too like the addition of a religious area for those who want to go to it
in times of need.
Thank you for your great suggestion. Please don't think that I am
insensitive to those who choose not to read Scripture. I am sensitive to
that too, and I feel like a special area for those who want that sort of
thing would be most appropriate especially for those
who don't enjoy reading religious matter on the web.
Best of luck to you all in your quest!

I think there is too much separation in religion now. Divide and conquer
has always been the deceiving strategy of any enemy. We are much stronger
together.
If we learn to uphold each other, accept each others differences, look for
the similarities, we take on a non-conquering power that energizes.
Can't we just limit our messages to "your prayers are
appreciated" and "angel advocacy"? None of us can do this
alone. The more support we rally around us, the safer and more successful
we will become.

Sorry you received a "snotty" e-mail. What I don't understand is
why this is such an issue. With all the e-mails I receive daily from the
mail list I read lots of questions and comments I don't have the answer to.
I simply delete these and don't answer them. Why don't those not interested
in the religious questions/comments simply do the same thing?

I understand the feeling of those that are NOT religious and how those of
us that ARE can sometimes be overbearing, but it would seem to me that if
we can use profanity and all kind of words that are offensive to those of
us that ARE religious/Christian, or any other belief/faith/religion, then a
forum specifically for 'Religious' individuals, no matter the particular
belief, because there are diverse people and cultures as well as faiths and
belief systems in this world. To me, just as long as WE ALL respect one
another and not try to convert or proselytize (sp?) anyone, I don't see
what the problem is. If you can't talk intellectually (with an open mind)
about something, then just don't talk at all! Talk that is offensive to me
has been displayed on this site, and no one censors it. Not trying to start
anything here, but I feel the need to say this...isn't that a form of
discrimination? Just asking, please don't flame me, please...
