Question:
I am concerned about some of the things I've been reading ...
This has been weighing heavy on my heart and concerning me that people may be having such intense procedures done without the proper guidence. This post is not meant to be a criticism in any way of questions I've been reading. However, it concerns me that some of the most basic information that the doctors should have provided to the patients are questions that are being asked here. Is it true that some doctors have provided the patients with little to no guidance for their post-op expectations, requirements, and aftercare? Perhaps I was very lucky to have had the intense guidance before and after my surgery and follow-up care to answer questions or concerns. I love this support method since by moving from South FL to Kansas City area I lost my support system where I had my surgery and there are no local doctors or groups here. I'm happy to share my experience, strength and hope (to borrow from another source) wherever I may be able to provide assistance. — Sherrie G. (posted on June 7, 1999)

I feel blessed that my surgeon has excellent pre/post follow-along (not
follow-up because he follows us forever). We also have a weekly support
group, and his home phone number. All of my questions have been answered
before I've even asked them. I have had two appointments and I'm preparing
to go to my orientation (which lasts two hours) and "photo
shoot", then surgery on July 22nd. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones.

I too am somewhat surprised by the questions and some
of the answers as well. I was given plenty of information
pryor to my surgery and I really think that most all of my
questions were answered pryor to my surgical decision. It
appears that this is not always the case. I hope to be of
some support here where needed. But I think many of the
questions asked should be asked of the doctors performing
the surgeries as each and every case is different. What
works/worked for me may never work for you. I wish each of you
the best and hang in there, continue asking.. this is the only
way to learn.

This is just a online support group for those who need extra help and our
surgeons can't be there for us at 2am. It is not intended to take the place
of a doctor. My surgeon told me to go out and talk to as many people as I
could about the surgery because he hadn't been through it and they could
answer my questions a lot better.
