Question:
2 1/2 years post op and having diarrhea
I have had diarrhea for 5 days now. I am 2 1/2 years post op from open RNY Distal and I have NEVER had diarrhea until 5 days ago. I mean it is like water!! I am taking immodium around the clock. So my questions is....what would cause diarrhea so bad so far out post op?? I am feeling really tired all the time. I was the picture of health up until last week. thanks to everyone who responds — debbie11092002 (posted on May 18, 2005)

Could be as simple as allergies or a virus. I'd see the doctor. I don't
think we should always assume that it's related to the RNY, especially if
there is a sudden change at 2 1/2 years out. My husband is going thru the
same thing this week and he's never had WLS. He has an upper respiratory
infection, bronchitis, and a sinus infection and the doctor told him the
diarrhea in his case is the body's protective mechanism for ridding itself
of infection. He's been a sluggard too.........been on the couch for three
days now.

Sounds like a flu to me, call your doc if you are seriously concerned.

I would see the Doctor . It could be the intestinal flu or it could be the
beginning of colitis or Irritible Bowel Syndrome.. Just 1 Nurses opinion.

Definately see a doc in case it is an infection or intestinal bug. I
actually am almost 3 years out and started getting diarhea a lot in the
past few months. I figured out it was because I changed to whole wheat
bread and other products. Plus, I'm on a Subway kick so I get wraps there
quite a bit....realized the wrap alone has 8g of fiber!!
