Question:
Any suggestions for VERY DRY SCALP

Hello all I'm 3 years post op I've been going through the whole hair falling out experience for the past year (again that is, it already happened at 4 months post op) I've incorporated biotin and zinc. I have also stopped using most hair care products, I began using a new shampoo and conditioner called "Seleca Shine" it is all organically based NO chemicals. I'm doing okay with it. I however have the worst itchy dry scalp ever. I'm ready to dump a bottle of oil on my head. Does anyone have suggestions on what I can do. I bought Nixoral and have used it several times throughout the years which doesn't really help. I'm wondering can I actually buy a hair oil treatment or something? Do you think that Vitamin E supplements could help?    — kristina p H. (posted on March 29, 2004)

The RNY causes mal absorbtion of oils. After some terrible problems with dry skin scalp and severe constipation I intentionally added canola oil to my diet. These problems all went away:)

I have dealt with dry scalp my whole life. The best shampoo I have found is Paul Mitchell's Tea Tree Shampoo. the conditioner sucks but the shampoo works miracles. My boyfriend has started using it as well and no more flakes. Good luck! Tiff

i've been a hairstylist for 12 years so i thought i would put my 2 cents in haha. ok 2 things you can do. the first is to get a good shampoo and conditioner that is ph balanced. if the ph is too high it can cause itchy dry scalp. also so shampoos and conditioners for "shine" make itchy scalp worse and the flakes awful. it makes the hair shiney by coating the hair, but it also makes the skin that would normally fake off stick to the scalp causing it look like you have alot more flakes.i agree the with other poster about tea tree it's great. another tip is to take a plastic vent brush in the shower with you. when you are soaping up your hair use it to massage your scalp(don't brush your hair only use the brush in small circle motion on the scalp) and loosen up the flakes. the first 3 days you will notice alot of flakes, but then it should start to look and feel alot better. also using the vent brush in the shower to massage the shampoo in will stimulate your scalp and help to regrow hair.

Hi Kristina. If none of these suggestions help I would recommend seeing a dermatologist- it could be a fungal infection. I hope that you feel better soon. Susan

Its lack of oil. You need try and take at least 100mg of vitamin A and 1000mg of vitamin C. These two vitimans help put oil back into your hair and nails. Hope it helps.
