I had my surgery just a few days after yours. I am abble to eat a half of a sandwich, a half of a lean cuisine meal, 5 large shrimp and a couple of bites of rice, most of an egg (of course not at the same time, lol). Some days I can eat more than others. It sounds like you are doing just fine though. Take care and good luck for the future!! .. Sarah, RNY 2/3/03, -136lbs.. 20 to go!!! =)

I will be 9 mos in two more days and I can usually eat around 1/2 cup of food...but don't often end up eating that much because it makes me feel full and icky. Don't know about the sandwich thing cause I've only ever had a few bites of bread 2x's while dining out. To me, the banana would just 'slide' right through though! It can also vary a lot depending on what I eat. Like I can eat much more salad, popcorn or soup but, give me a solid protein (let's say chicken) and 1/2 cup is my max...with 1/3 cup being my 'comfort zone'. Also, keep in mind that our pouches are supposed to strech some over time. My surgeon's nurse said that they like to see their patients eating 1 - 11/2 cups by one year. Good luck to you!

I am only 4.5 months post-op, but I too wonder if I am eating too much, although it is way less than I used to eat. For breakfast I ALWAYS have my Isopure protein shake for 50 grams of protein, a piece of cheese for a snack and then lunch is usually some grilled chicken strips or soup or a 1/2 of sandwhich and dinner is just a very small portion of whatever we are having, whether it be pot roast or spaghetti(very lite on the spaghetti!). I would say 4-6 oz is all I can stomach if I go over, I don't get sick, but I get that icky feeling. It sounds to me that your doing fine...good luck

I am nine months out. here is what i have had today which is more than I usually eat because I have an ulcer and have been unable to eat much until this week. Breakfast at six a.m. I protein shake and 8oz diet v-8 splasg. About 10:30 I had ine scrambled egg with cheese, lunch was five large globe grapes, dinner was 2 bites of roast pork, two bites of baked potato and 1/2 pear. Before I go to bed, I will have another protein shake. That is a lot more than i have been eating but when i have tried to eat part of a sandwich, I make 1/2 and then can only eat half of that. Before i started having the ulcer problem (which is much better now ), I always ate about the same as what i had today.

I will be 9 months on Nov. 3rd. How much I can eat varies drastically. Some meals it might be 4 oz of protein and a few bites of something else. Other meals it might be 6-7 oz of boiled shrimp with nothing else or maybe ketchup which has carbs. I have always been able to eat way more shrimp than other foods as it doesn't sit as heavy. Once in a while a meal might be a Carb Solutions High protein bar or steak with mushrooms and onions. I almost always eat at least 3oz of protein and typically 4-5 oz. In general my grams of carbs of all kinds is lower than my protein grams. I typically eat 50-65% protein and the rest carbs and fat, but some days it gets out of whack. I also have been told the 1 to 1-1/2 cups of food at maintenance but if I am still eating the same proportions that may be difficult as I do not see being able to consistently eat 8 oz of protein. On a typical day I could never eat a whole ham sandwhich and a banana, but there are some days I could maybe come close, minus the bun. I usually share a large banana with my 4 dogs. I get 2 bites they the rest. The quantity just seems to vary drastically some meals. <p>One thing is for sure this isn't an exact science! Because my post-op plan has never used protein drinks I need to get enough calories and grams from foods to support my body and activity lifestyle. The days I work out that's difficult as I usually end up burning around 500-600 calories just from my workout.

At ten months post, I have a routine down for my meals. I find that if I eat 2 protein servings, one piece of whole wheat bread, and some fruit or vegetable, I'm satisfied and I won't get hungry for another 3-4 hours. I still do the protein shakes though too (to get 30-45 extra grams of protein per day). I find that I need some bread and some fruit or veggie in addition to the protein to stay full. Cheers, Patricia (285/157, 5'7").
