Question:
Am I a loser?
I'm 9 weeks and 2 days out of surgery for a loss of nearly 30 pounds. Anyone else lost this little? I'm grateful for the loss, but lost nearly the same amount dieting for the surgery, with no surgery help. I started at 254 on June 1st, weighed 225 pounds five days before surgery, pigged out for my final 5 days, and day of surgery, August 18, was 230 pounds — Sandy A. (posted on October 22, 2003)

Sandy, I started on this process weighing 262.5 pounds. By the day of
surgery I was at 238. I am almost 4 weeks out and have lost an additional
14. My surgeon was very happy with my weight loss at three weeks. He
said, based on all the weight I lost beforehand, I should probably lose two
to three pounds per week now, that all the fluid weight was already gone.
And yes, I did do that at times before on diets but this time, I haven't
been hungry, have to force myself to eat, and I can see the inches falling
off faster than the pounds. The biggest difference is that everytime I
lost it before, it always came back plus more. So, just keep getting in
all your protein, drinking your water, taking your vitamins and exercising
and this time, it will come off and stay off. I ran a little calculation
and if my math is correct, you are averaging losing about 1/2 pound per
day. Doesn't sound too shabby to me. Good luck.

I know exactly what you mean! I'm doing the same thing. I had surgery
aug. 18,2003. In the beginning I weighed 270 and when I went into surgery
I weighed 255. I now weigh 229. I saw the Dr. last week and told him I
was unhappy with my weight loss. He told me I was doing great. He
basically told me the same as the other post's Dr. did. I had already lost
weight before the surgery and I also would not lose as fast as someone much
larger. I am getting much smaller so that is encouraging. All of my
clothes are too big and I'm having to get smaller ones. My problem is that
I just can't seem to drink the required amt.

The thing to think about here is this surgery is going to help you keep it
off. The weight you lost before surgery, without the surgery, would
probably have been regained, plus some. That is why I had the surgery. I
could lose the 150 pounds but had a 99% chance of gaining it all back and
some. With the surgery I have a 95% chance of loosing it and keeping it
off. I like those odds!

Don;t worry about pounds lost... You are lossing weight, and that is
wonderful. It will come off as long as you follow doctor's orders.
Everything from age to genetics is a factor in how fast someone will loose
weight. You will be just fine. Be patient.
