I have Humana PPO and was approved in just 2 weeks. No troubles and no special hoops to jump through. I hope that your HMO is also cooperative. Surgery was July 2003. Good luck!

I have Humana HMO and live in Texas. The only requirements I had to meet was medically necessary. I had not co-morb but was 115 lbs overweight. All of the initial tests (sleep study, EGD, ect) were all requirements of my surgeon just to be on the safe side, not because Humana required them. I was approved in less than 24 hours.

I have Humana HMO. I was approved the same day, but wasn't contacted by the surgeon's office until the end of the week...they were trying to workout and schedule my surgery date before they called me back. I wasn't even expecting it. I didn't think that they were going to try for approval until after we got my sleep study results back. The doctor's office didn't wait for the results...they didn't even send my paperwork to Humana...all they did was call and got the approval over the phone. Humana only required that I have a BMI over 40 or a BMI of 35 and more with co-morbs. I had a BMI of 43 plus co-morbs. I went through additional testing per my surgeon's request (precautionary measures) prior to surgery...wasn't required by Humana. You really shouldn't have any problems. Humana is great! I wish you much luck!
