Question:
Could my gall bladder go bad so soon?
I had LAP/RNY June 17th of this year. (About 4 months ago) One month before surgery, my gall bladder ultra sound came back "normal." Last night I woke up several times to a dull, throbbing pain underneath the right rib cage area. It's not killing me or anything it's just aching and pulsating. So my question is, could this be my gall bladder or am I just being anal? My second question is - Is it possible for my gall bladder to go down hill so soon after surgery ? I am planning on calling my surgeon tomorrow regardless - I was just hoping to get some insight from all of you before I do. Thanks in advance. :) — Kim W. (posted on October 5, 2003)

I had my surgery last week and my surgeon takes out the gallbladder because
yes it can go bad,I am not sure how fast but I assume it can be that fast!
GOOD LUCK!

Yes it can. I've heard of them having to be removed after 3 months, 6
months. For me it took a year following my LAP RNY for mine to have to be
removed.

The pain you described is exactly what my gall bladder pain was like. I'm a
pre-op, and my gall bladder went bad after my most "successful"
conventional diet. I lost 40 pounds. I was in the ER twice with it before
my endocrinologist figured out what it was. My surgeon also takes the gall
bladder out during RNY surgery if you have one. Do call your doctor. Best
of luck.

I had my first gallbladder attack within 6 weeks of the RNY. I didn't
have another one for about a month and by 4 months post-op, I had 6 in one
weekend. I had confirmed gallstones at 4 months post op and my gallbladder
was removed at 5 months post op. It sucks to have it happen so soon when
you are still recovering from the first surgery but it can definitely
happen.
