Question:
Dr removed my hormones 1 week preop-really anxious
Has anyone preop had to remove their hormone patch or stop taking their hormone pills because of the risk of blood clots?I'm ok with not taking them, but I feel like I am going off the deep end. I am so anxious and nervous. Nothing really specific, just a very uneasy feeling that won't go away.I am usually not like this. I don't know if it has something to do with my hormone levels or the fact that I am having major life altering surgery in 4 days. Please help. Hugs..Jane. — peanutpatty (posted on August 8, 2003)

I had to go off of my hormone pills 3 weeks prior to surgery. I have to
admit I did fine until after the surgery, when I developed horrible night
sweats. I was able to resume the hormones at one month post op. Hang in
there and know that the feelings will pass. Best of luck to you!

I had gastric bypass in January and am having plastic surgery next week.
Neither surgeon told me to stop my hormones. I can go about a week without
them and then I'm basket case city.

I had to stop my birth control method a month before surgery because of the
hormones and blood clot possibilities. Small price to pay, I think. :)
Anxiety is normal before any major life event, surgery or otherwise.

Hi Jane- I am hopefully having WLS in Jan '04. I currently take birth
control pills for menstral regulation. My surgeon told me to stop taking
them 1 month before the surgery, but because I'm extra careful, I will
probably stop when they cycle out in November. Sorry, hubby.....LOL. You
are probably more nervous about the upcoming surgery, everything will be
fine! Good Luck, Mea

Just my 2 cents, but I think the people who take a tranquelizer type med
pre op, go into surgery with their body more ready for surgery.

I had been taking hormones for six years and decided to stop them myself
before my surgery. I started taking one every other day for a week, then
one every 2 days for a week, etc,and then eventually stopped. Now, post-op
open RNY 7/3-I have no problems.
