Question:
I have definite hardness and burning at times at the bottom of my incision-HERNIA?
Okay, my stomach gets rocks hard and I can actually see it moving, it causes burning and it is located towards the bottom of my incision. I just had open RNY last Monday---any clues? I've also had no bowel movements since like before the surgery so thats like almost a week now. Is this gas or a hernia?????????? The only thing I was consuming was Crystal Light, it was the first time I tried it but I don't think it could cause all of that! Any input is VERY MUCH APPRECIATED! — teresaxxxx (posted on August 2, 2003)

sounds very much like muscle spasms...not uncommon at all, but a bit
intimidating. It's also not uncommon to not have a bowel movement the
first week or so. If it continues to bother you, or freaks you out don't
be afraid to call your surgeon's nurse and get confirmation. Oh the burning
is common when cuts heal - its a deep cut so the burning tends to feel deep
sometimes too. Good luck and congrats!

That is your intestinal tract doing its thing. Your stomach is up right
behind the bottom of your rib cage. Try to drink more water to get the
bowels moving otherwise they will be rock hard when you finally do go. As
far as the burning, what the last poster said about the healing is correct.
You could also be having gas starting to move thru the bowels again and
that could be why you could see your belly moving.

PS - too early for a hernia.

Hi, being I have still not healed in the bottom of my incision area for
almost 3 1/2 months now, it sounds like a seroma. That is a build up of
drainage around your incision. I just had this problem again over the
weekend, and around the bottom part of my incision where it is still
draining. What I do to get rid of it and get the draining going again is I
lay down with the heating pad on high on it for several hours until it
"POPS" or starts draining again. But I would call your surgeon
anyway. Good Luck!!!
