Question:
How much should you be able to eat 1 year after surgery?
I had my surgery July 31, 2002 and I am comming up on my 1 year anniversary. To date I have lost 148 lbs and feel great. I am very scared that maybe I am eating too much or the wrong things. For example I can eat 4 chicken nuggets and like 5 fries. Sometimes I can eat better than others, I guess it just depends on the food. Please someone who is a year or more out basically tell me what they eat in a day. Thank you! — Andrea M. (posted on July 23, 2003)

i think everyone is different. but you will be able to eat more than you
did. if you are worried about gaining weight back, you might want to look
at your food choices. nuggets and fries are really all that great for you.
and i know it is hard when you are on the run trying to grab something
quick. maybe you could get a grilled chicken sandwich instead of something
fried. your stomach has now adjusted to your new way of eating. that is why
there is a honeymoon period. now more than ever you need to make sure you
are eating healthy. good luck

I have on my profile what I ate at 4/9/18/24 months out. I find that the
quantity I can eat depends on many factors including the consistency of the
food and how long it has been since I last ate. Also, hormonal fluctuations
can affect my appetite.
I have eaten a chicken nugget or two in my
time ;) and usually when I settle for this type of food it is because I am
pressed for time and have already waited to long to eat. If that's what
happened to you, that may be why you ate more than you normally would. I
don't think the volume is too much for your stage and as for the choice of
food, well, everything in moderation, right? :)

I can eat 4 chicken nuggets and three or four fries no problem, but chose
not to 99% of the time. I can eat a big-n-tasty (minus 1 bun) too but
chose not to most of the time. A rare treat :>) Typical
day is Breakfast: 4 ounces of moz string cheese (4 sticks total
28 grams of protein). Mid-morning snack: 3 ounces beef jerky or nuggets
(28 to 33 grams of protein). Lunch: half sandwich on whole grain stone
ground wheat bread loaded with 2.5 ounces of wafer thin corned beef, 3/4
ounces american cheese, 1 tablespoon mayo and 1 slice iceburg lettuce.
(Total protein 23 grams of protein). Dinner: 2-3 ounces of lean meat with
1/2 cup lightly steamed veggies and a couple tablespoons of jarred alfredo
sauce -sometimes - or salsa and sour cream, or butter. (total protein 18 to
25 grams). Evening snack: no-sugar-added pudding, fudgecicle, or a beef
stick (depends on my protein for the day and whether I feel I need more
:>) Total protein for the day about 90 to 100 grams. Starchy Carbs 25
or less. 1 year out yesterday and down 175 pounds.

My post-op diet calls for 8 ozs. of food per meal and one snack daily from
one year on out. This is supposed to be what we need to stay on track.
