Question:
I am 10 days pre-op and I took.....
I took a BC Powder yesterday. I had a horrible headache and BC's was the only thing that got rid of it...What worries me is that I quit taking BC powder about a month and one half ago and yesterday was the first time I had taken aspirin since. Anyway, this morning when I blew my nose, there was blood... Eeeeeeeek! I am wondering if it was because I took aspirin after not taking it for so long and could the aspirin I took yesterday effect my surgery in 10 days? Thank you in advance for any advice you might have. >^,,^< Nervous Nellie — Kim W. (posted on June 6, 2003)

Hmmm, okay -- when I have a severe headache and then some blood when I blow
my nose, it's a SURE sign that I have a sinus infection. But you might want
to call your surgeon anyway. ;)

Hi,
I don't think 10 days would be a problem, but I would check before doing
it again---because of the bleeding AND because aspirin is a bolld thinner.
Before most surgeries not just WLS, the majority of surgeons ask you to
NOT take aspirin, ibuprofen or other blood thinners. I would call your
surgeon for his specific preferences!!!

My surgery was almost cancelled as I was being prepped by the
Anesthesiologist because I had taken aspirin 9 days before surgery. He
consulted with my surgeon and they decided to proceed because the cut-off
was 10 days prior to surgery. Something to do with the platelets in your
blood not forming clots or something like that. You should be ok.
