Question:
Any problem with stomach acid burning skin after tube is pulled out?
After my drain tube was pulled I drained steady and the acid burnt, ate whatever you want to call it the skin around the hole. I started out with a hole smaller than the size of a pencil and ended up with a hole almost 1" across and 3/8" up and down. I had to go to the Emergency Room and the Dr. there called in a WLS Surgeron. He said it was not normal. But I am glad to say I am on the mend. Just wanted to know had anyone else experinced this. I think that I had the same thing happen to me. I had some really big white
ulcers in the back and front of the insides of my mouth. I showed them to
the surgeon the 2nd day and he said it wasn't anything to worry about. He
never offered the explanation that it was caused by acid from my stomach
tube. I just figured it had to be. Gladly, none of my ulcers became holes,
but it was very sore for about 5 days and then it just cleared up. My
bottom lip looked like I'd been socked from the ulcerated place on it. It
was a good thing that I could only have liquids anyway, because I wouldn't
have been able to eat anything. Melisa RNY 08/15/02 -84lbs
