Question:
Help. PLEASE!!! I received a letter from Aetna today, they need more info.
I am so stressed out! I have been waiting 3 weeks for approval. Today, I got the letter asking for more info. I was maticulous about crossing all my T's & dotting all my I's. Since 1-1-03, they have become much more strict on what they NEED. A PCP letter is no longer enough. Now they want all of my medical records with diet history (again), proof that I have been followinig a physican supervised diet for at least 6 months , meaning the actual DR.'s office notes, as well as proof that I have been seeing a nutritionalist (!!!!!),& proof that I have been on an exercise program!!!! I just got my ins. as of 1-1-03. So, I am seeing a new PCP that accepts Aetna. I have only seen her 1 time, to get my referral. The previous DR. I saw for 8 months, only 2 or 3 times. Before that I went to the county health center..... YADDY,YADDY!!!! More work & frustration. Please send me some words of wisdom, consolation & prayers. Thank you. I am not going down without a fight! Thanks again, Karen [email protected] — [Deactivated Member] (posted on February 26, 2003)

Take a deep breath and start making calls. My insurance required 5 yrs of
medical history along with diet history etc. My surgeons office took care
of most of the running. I made sure I got every ER visit, dr visit, therapy
visit, etc. My surgeon told me if I was treated for a hangnail to get that
documentation. So you need to contact all those Dr you mentioned. Good
luck. Jamie

I kknow it may seem pretty discouraging, but even if you don't have any
proof of medically supervised weight loss, you can get it. You can go to
your PCP, explain what Aetna wants and also make an appointment with a
dietician. Please make sure it is someone who is a registered dietician.
Anyone can say they are a nutritionist, but a registered dietician has to
have at least a master's degree, and has also had to pass an exam to be
registered. Not that all dieticians are good and nutritionists bad, but
just in case that is something that matters to your insurance company.
Your PCP should be able to recommend someone.
