Question:
Were you diagnosed with a heart valve problems after pre-op testing?
During my pre-op tests they may have found a problem with my heart's aortic valve. They aren't 100% sure yet, but more tests to come. Of course I took Fen-Phen. Is there any diet trick I DIDN'T try? I wonder if this has come up with anyone else and what happened. I wonder if I can still have the surgery. — Nancy O. (posted on February 19, 2003)

Hey Nancy, I have aortic damage as well resulting from Redux. It wasn't
diagnosed until after I had the surgery but I had no issues with it and it
wasn't a complication as far as surgery is concerned. I have a mild case,
though.

My husband never took Phen-fen or Redux or anything, yet he has some aortic
valve stenosis. This was found as part of his surgeon's mandated cardiac
clearance for surgery. The only recommendation is a follow up
echocardiogram in 1 year. Surgery is still a go!

Am 17 months post op down 115lbs. My pre op cardiac ultrasound showed
mitral valve damage... from the Phen-fen I took. (Made me even more
determined to have the surgery). Have had no post op problems, infact was
off all blood pressure meds 2weeks following surgery.
