Question:
I would like to hear from anyone who sucessfully had the WLS while they had COPD
COPD (Cronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease). I just today was released from the hospital after a week of Acute Respiratory Distress caused by COPD. I am 6 wks away from my WLS and am feeling very concerned and worried. Would like to talk to someone who has this condition and had the surgery so I can ask how you are now and what I can expect. — suehorn (posted on February 14, 2003)

Hi Susan. I have Asthma and COPD and had my Lap-RNY one month ago. It
wasn't any different than any other surgeries I've had. They had the
Respiratory Dept. come in every 4 hours to give me a breathing treatment
and keep track of my breathing and I did fine! Since I've been on Advair
inhaler, I've done really well and don't have hardly any acute attacks
anymore! Just make sure your Anesthesiologist knows your history so he can
be prepared for any distress you might get into. Good luck!!!
