Question:
Does BCBS TX ever approve Lap Band
OK I know most of you are not big on lap band, however if there are any of you out there who have been banded AND were approved by BCBS TX PPO would like to hear from you regarding which surgeon you used, how recently you have had your surgery,BMI and comorbidities.Wondering if they cover this procedure at all. — Lisa F. Hi Lisa. From what I understand, most insurance companies consider the
LapBand to be "experimental" at this time, although I expect that
will change to be included as a viable weight loss surgery option in the
year or so ahead. Take care.

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama will not. They consider it
"investigational", even though it was approved by the FDA in
2000.That's why I'm having gastric bypass.If I were you, I would contact
their customer service. You should be able to do that by e-mail.

Lisa,
If you're in TX, then you've got a great option right near you! Mexico!
Ask around about Mexico on some of the bandster lists on yahoo or on the
spotlighthealth.com lap band site and you should get lots of response. My
insurance wouldn't cover it, I'm here in TX too and I went to Acuna, MX
(near Del Rio). Here is my doc's webpage for more info: www.joseband.com.
It was $6500 which was managable since we borrowed from our 401Ks. Good
luck! You've made a great choice. I'm extremely happy with my band! -73
