Question:
Is it normal to be naseauted and sleepy?

I am 2 1/2 weeks post op. I get naseauted drinking anything but water and food also makes me naseauous. In addition I am very tired and take 2-3 naps a day. Is this normal? I had a rough post op with pneumonia and a blood infection so I am not sure if this is normal or not.    — Melanie H. (posted on February 4, 2003)

How much and what are you eating? Read the backs of EVERYTHING. If it has sugar g listed (milk, juice, applesauce, yogurt), you're probably dumping. You can also dump from drinking with meals or just eating too much volume. Now, naps are nromal, as far as I'm concerned, just from the trauma of surgery/anesthesia. I napped for 6 wks after my revision. But then, I'm old.

I didn't feel back to normal until atleast 4 weeks post-op from LAP RNY. And esp. since you had small complications after the surgery, you went through alot! It's very normal to be tired and sleep alot, this will eventually pass. But do make sure to get up as much as you can and walk so you don't get pneumonia again. And the nausea is okay, too, it will take time to adjust to things. Ofcourse it doesn't feel okay, but it's normal! Even if you get nausea from eating non-fattening, no sugar things, it can be normal as well. Stick to what foods make you feel alright for now. Later on, you'll see you can tolerate more and more foods, and often the ones that made you sick you'll be able to eat again. Feel better, I wish you the best!

Hi,Yes, yes yes I felt awful for along time. I slept all the time and was weak couldn't even get out the bed to go to bathroom. I started getting black rings around my eyes. I had very scary dreams with scared me so bad I was scared to go to sleep. This is no joke. also All smells made me naseauted. I vomited and gag with nothing coming out. I was a mess. I finally made myself eat something, drink what I could and get out of the bed and then I notice everyday was getting better I started getting stronger and slept less. I feel way better now. I truly believe the anestehesia played a big part in how I felt after wls.

You sound very normal. Just hang in there. Rest and let your body heal.
