Question:
Surgery too close to insurance effective date?
I signed up for insurance in the middle of December (Anthem HMO) and have sinced scheduled my preop consultation. My insurance is effective Feb 1, and my preop is Feb 4. When I signed my insurance application, I stated that I'm not considering any form of surgery. Now I'm concerned that since the preop date is so soon, it may raise a red flag as far as approval goes. Does anybody have any experience with getting approval so quickly after getting insurance? Thanks tons! — Cyndi C. (posted on December 30, 2002)

I would honestly move your consultation date. What's a few more weeks? It
does seem kinda funny, especially since you made the appointment for the
consultation in advance of your effective date. (I'm assuming) They might
be able to cancel your policy, because you lied. Or they could just make
it real hard for you to get the surgery if they suspect anything. Best
wishes and good luck

From a claims payment point of view.......as long as it's after Feb 1, it
doesnt matter. that is of course, if you dont have a pre-existing clause
in your policy.
