Question:
Anyone ever heard of

Hi , I was cruising along fine until 4th month , first diarrhea for a month , then changed to constipation for the last three months , with only being able to eat half my normal intake , and no more than a 1/3 cup fluids at a time without pain , bloating , and dumping. Doc has put me on big pills saying I "might" have this lost loop syndrome , so we'll see if these pills clear it up. They're making me sick , I am dumping on everything I was able to eat before .... any ideas ? Had the swallow , no ulcers , have a small hernia but they say that won't cause it , and gallbladder's gone for years.    — Rebecca H. (posted on November 25, 2002)

I can't help but think he is talking about blind loop syndrome (I believe I've heard it referred to lost loop before, as well as contaminated bowel syndrome)...anyway, it's basically an overgrowth of bacteria in the bowels. If not treated can become very serious! Glad you're taking your antibiotics for it. Can take about 4 to 6 weeks to get rid of completely - with antibiotics. Sometimes surgery is necessary if a stricture develops in the bowel. Best of luck to you!
