Bless you! I can totally relate. I'm about six weeks out now and I haven't
had any vomitting incidents in the recent past, so I can tell you it should
get better! I too was having major issues with eating too fast and
vomitting when I was newly pre-op. My first few weeks I could only keep
SUGARFREE yogurt and cheese down (my doctor considers those
"soft" foods). What about soups? A mashed banana? Those are
the only things I could handle in the beginning...that and protein
shakes....though I did even have an 'incident' with the famous Carnation
Instant Breakfast drink (sugarfree) (I think I must have drank it too
fast..). Also, what about instant oatmeal..or grits? I guess what I'm
saying is I don't know if I necessarily cured my "eating too
fast" issue--I more adjusted the food I was eating. I hope this
helps!!!!! KK

Sheri!
Hi, I am now 6 weeks post-op and definitely had the same trouble you did.
It is really not good for you to vomit, especially so early post-op. I
measure all my foods and liquids and then sometimes will sit in front of
the TV and take as long as a 30 minute show to eat or drink(I really had to
go slow with the protein shakes as they are so concentrated). Now I am
back at work, and usually take lunch at my desk and will use the computer
clock to time my meals. Also I found that if I was not drinking enough
water I was more likely to be nauseous. Good Luck!!!

Hi, I am two months post op, and sometimes I still have this problem. It
just happened yesterday at work. I had a couple of bites of chicken and
some scalloped potatoes. Needless to say it looked like I didn't eat any
of it. Try timing it like other posters have stated. I did this at first,
and didn't puke when I was on the liquid and puree diets. I took a small
sip or bite waited a minute or two, and then took the next sip or bite.
Good luck.

sheri first i want to congratulate u on ur surgery & wish u a speedy
recovery. when u eat, after u have inserted the food into ur mouth PUT UR
UTENSIL DOWN. do not pick it up again until u have chewed thoroughly &
swallowed all. i had to do this & in fact, still do or i too get sick,
& i am 11 mos post op. get an egg timer or other time gadget &
place it in front of u when u eat. rest between bites for a minute if u
wish, or take 4 or 5 bites & rest, whatever works for u. eat with
someone & converse while u r eating. this someone might even watch u
eat as u talk & dine, & kindly remind u to slow down. thats what my
dh does & im glad he does. these r just a few suggestions i can give u
to slow down at meal time. as far as what u can eat...my surgeon puts all
his patients on a pureed & soft food, eat anything u want diet for the
first 6 weeks. (within reason of course). my honey bought me a blender
stick & i pureed solid food into soft food. maybe u can call ur surgeon
& ask him if this is acceptable, as it certainly extends ur choice of
foods & satisfies ur taste buds for the flavors they r looking
for...ie: beef, pork, poultry etc. i also have a problem with eggs staying
down. in the beginning i didnt know how to tell if eggs would agree with me
that day or not. now all i have to do is think of an egg & the
different ways i like it prepared, then i pay very close attention to what
'hitler' (my pouch's name lol) is saying. if i am not thinking 'mmmmmmmm'
at this point, i know that there will be no eggs entering this body that
day. lol. keep up the good work & bear in mind that it does get easier
as time passes. good luck to u.
