Question:
Anyone had BCBS HMO Blue New England coverage...?
I have Blue Cross/Blue Shield HMO Blue New England (Massachusetts based). When I had my surgery (Open RNY 3/28/02) I had a different insurer - I changed jobs this month and have new insurance. They (BC/BS) will be covering my follow-up visits no problem (isn't that nice), but I'm wondering if I want to have a TT, has anyone had BCBS HMO Blue NE and had it covered? What are their requirements for covering this surgery? Any comments/suggestions would be helpful...THANKS! — sssuzie1 (posted on November 1, 2002)

I also have HMO Blue New England/BCBSMA and I really don't know what the
guidleines are for tummy tucks. And I'm not at that point yet. I would
call customer service and ask them to send you a copy of medical policy
regarding plastic surgery & reconstructive surgery. Also you might
want to contact a plastic surgeon and find out what their experience has
been. Those are the things I plan to do if I decide to pursue a tummy
tuck. Bekka, I tried that link and it doesn't bring to Blue Cross of Mass.
But it's interesting to know that medical policy is available on-line. So
I went to the BCBCMA.com website and there is medical policy out there but
I didn't look enough to see if there are any guidelines. Regardless, an
employer can change the rules if they are self funded etc. So the best bet
is to contact them directly and see what the rules are. Good Luck!
