Question:
Can food get stuck in your pouch?
I am 12 days post op and on the full liquids diet. I ate 4 oz of instant mashed potatoes last night and feel like they got stuck in the pouch and would not empty out. They were too thick and I didn't realize it until I had eaten all of it. Is this possible? — Maria D. (posted on October 18, 2002)

Hi, you can also dissolve 1/4 tsp. of meat tenderizer in warm water and
drink it. Sounds gross, I know, but it's supposed to work.

Mashed potatos cannot get stuck in the pouch, Larger more dense objects
could get stuck in your stoma but if you stick to the doctors diet for 12
days post-op and eat very small bites and chew very well you should be Ok.
For easier digestion, go buy papaya enzyme tablets and chew up a few of
them with hot water. It helps to move the food thru for when your feeling
uncomfortable-suggested by my nutritionist and you can find it at GNC.

I am one year out and there are two things that still get stuck...chicken
or any dry meat, and oodles of noodles! I know I shouldn't even try to eat
those oodles of noodles but they tasted so good and went down well until a
minute later! Oh my. Pain. I have to bring them back out. I don't know
how anyone can drink water with meat tenderizer or warm water or anything
when something is stuck. I start getting that white foam, slime-like stuff
and I have to throw up. Does anyone else have this happen? Has anybody
else tried oodles of noodles....never again for me. Marilyn
