Question:
Has Any Insurance Paid for Reconstructive Surgery
Other than tummy tucks? My doctor said no, but as I was reading my insurance coverage it said that it does cover cosmetic surgery if it is required to restore or correct a part of the body that has been altered as a result of accidental injury, disease or surgery. I would think because of obesity and RNY it sounds like I qualify. Am I getting my hopes up too high? I have BCBC Federal. — Lisa N M. (posted on October 3, 2002)

Acordia and CIGNA approved my panniculectomy and brachioplasty last year.
Remember that policies and coverage seem to vary from state-to-state, and
don't let a first denial scare you off. Acordia denied my surgery after
the plastic surgeon's first letter of medical necessity. I followed their
guidelines for the appeal process and my surgery was approved within one
week of the appeal. Good luck!
