Question:
When do you get the bowel prep, breathing exerciser and medication?

I'm just 4 days away from my LAP RNY and I don't have a visit with my doctor till the day of surgery. What my problem is is when I saw my doc she said that she was going to give me some antibiotic to kill the bacteria that causes ulcers, well she never gave it to me. She also said that I would be given a breathing machine, the little exerciser, before surgery, but I haven't gotten that. And I'm assuming I'll have a bowel prep but I haven't gotten it. I have an information class to go to, but it'll be with nurses and a bunch of other people having the surgery through different dr.'s and I don't think they are given me my stuff then. I put a call into the dr.'s nurse and no one called me back. When did all of you get all of these things? Will my surgery be delayed because they forgot about me? Any help you could give me would be great and thanks for listening!!    — Heather B. (posted on September 27, 2002)

I had no bowel prep - just eat lightly the day before. The breathing machine was brought in after surgery - just blow hard into it (I presume we ar not talking c-pap) and as far as meds - none before going to hospital. Did your surgeon forget to write a script for you to take BEFORE surgery? If so I would definately get on the phone to them.

I did not have to do a bowel prep, but I was told nothing but liquids the day before surgery and nothing after midnight. Good Luck with your surgery. {{{HUGS}}}

I was given a series of meds for two full weeks before surgery to kill the bacteria that causes ulsers. It is called PrevPac, and it is 4 types of meds. I am sure there are other meds for this. The bowel prep I was give then night before. I began my prep at 2:00, then at 6 - 8 - & 11 pm. My surgery was at one the next day. The breathing machine thingy I didn't get till after my surgery. Good luck to you.
