Question:
Has anyone has any adverse side affects on Versaid ?
While Dr's were putting a filter in my calf for a blood clot and installing the central line so I could have Rny, I was given Versaid to help keep me comfortable. Instead, I freaked out and made them stop. The filter was put in but my Bi-pass has been cancelled for about 1 month. I was devistated but much safer this way. There has to be a way to make you more comfortable while preparations are made. — mmorris (posted on August 17, 2002)

I do not know if you mean VERSED, but if so I am confused by your
description of it affect on you. I did research on it before they gave it
to me for an endoscopy and it is an amnesiac, it isn't supposed to calm
you. It's purpose is to have the patient conscious and able to follow
directions to aid in whatever procedure is being done while blocking the
recall or memory of the event (so you don't even remember being in
excrutiating pain). It is often used in combination with Demerol which
produces the calming and sedating affect. Hope this help some. I,
personally, passed out about 15 seconds after having the two administered
and did not remember a thing although i was told I was cooperating and
conscious.

I have had Versed in the past during either procedures or surgeries to make
me less agitated. Each time I had extreme panic/anxiety attacks. My
therapist says it is because Versed is a mind scrambler, an amnesiac. What
we can't remember happening to us tends to make us more anxious and
frightened, especially if you have been abused in your childhood. I no
longer allow Versed to be given to me before any kind of surgery, and are
allowed to take some xanax before to help calm me. If you need to talk
more about this, please feel free to contact me @ [email protected]. I hope
this helps you understand the drug a little better.
